MY LIFE MY STORY MY VERSE I am a 36 year-old wife/mother/writer most days. I have four beautiful warrior children ages 6,7,10,11 (Naima, Camara, Kambui and Nzingha). I have a degree in Print-Journalism/English Literature. I am a certified Special Education Teacher Mild/Moderate disabilities and Severe/Profound disabilities. I taught for nine years before the Hurricane. Also during that period I found myself at odds with that particular career path. Today I am currently completiting my M.F.A. studies in Creative Writing while being an at home mommy (homeschooling). I work with a co-op vegetable garden program called Sankofa Gardens and it's a wonderful treat.

Beloved, I pray that this email reaches you and your love ones in the best of spiritual, physical, and mental health. I read your article on sexual assault in the armed forces. I would like to thank you for the courage to give "voice" for the thousands of women who have been denied freedom, justice, and equality. For so long, our cries for assistance have been muted. However, it is just a mirror giving off a reflection. The sexual assault of Black women is ignored in both the military as well as in the civillian realm. Thanks again and I pray that God and or your higher power continues to bestow his favor on you and your family.

I am looking forward to reading more of your post

Gulf Coast Greetings

Sister Mawiyah--

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your warm greetings. I look forward to sharing in sistership and creativity. Just learned that you are from NOLA. And YES-- I very much know what it's like to miss that magical place. Check out "Crecent City Makeover" on my blog when you get a chance: http://sovereignspirit.blogspot.com/

She needed what most colored girls needed: a chorus of mamas, grandmamas, aunts, cousins, sisters..best girl friends and what-all to give the strength that life demanded-- and the humor with which to live it. ~Toni Morrison, Song of Solomon
