About Me

Hi, my name is Pennie Murray, a single mom of two adult children and two grandchildren.  I’ve had quite a diverse professional background as a police officer, a retail store owner, a radio talkshow host, and now for the last 11 years a professional speaker and corporate trainer. A few years ago I wanted to utilize my ability as a corporate trainer more effectively, but at the same time I was struggling with the reality of how different Black American's achievement measures up against White American achievement. As a black woman, I’ve always chosen professions that were considered non-traditional on two levels—for a woman and for blacks. With these professions I’ve also always been conscious of the undercurrents of racial stigmas and stereotypes that seemed to relegate me to dead-end efforts and fewer meaningful relationships.

This is when I became impassioned about understanding why black-achievement seemed to be such a struggle for so many mainstream blacks. So I turned my academic and professional focus to researching and addressing what I felt was a sense of apprehensiveness in blacks when it came to achieving their goals; and how this lack of achievement may lead to our frustrations of being black in American. Now by using my skills as a corporate educator, I’m teaching others what I’ve learned in my graduate studies and from my own life's journey about the success fearing personality and why we as Blacks may have a pre-disposition to this characteristic.

My life is now driven by the African Proverb: When you understand the “whys” of life, you can endure any “how.”  I live it, I bring into my retreats and workshops as the corner stone for helping others to recognize; understand and manage the hidden apprehensiveness that burdens their potential for success.

Your Spirit Speaks

What I sense is a spirit in its most humble state willing to offer sisterly advice on how to succeed. It's always a splendid assessment, of black power, seeing the multifaceted talents of our people.
