About Me
I'm a Detroit native who has always had a passion for writing every since I learned how to write. When I was young I use to write short stories, plays, poems, and I kept a diary. When my elementary school started a newspaper, The Paul Robeson Herald, I was ecstatic. From then I went on to write for my middle school's newspaper (Best Bear News), then my high school's newspaper and yearbook (The Eagle & The Talon), I've interned for The Record Magazine and Q95.5, and have been published in Guidepost for Teens Magazine, Wayne State University's South End Newspaper, and The Michigan Front Page. During my junior year of high school I traveled to Gainesville, Florida to attend the University of Florida's Summer Journalism Institute where I studied online journalism and web site design. During my senior year of high school I had the wonderful opportunity to shadow the former news reporter, Macella Lee of WDIV Detroit Channel 4 and Derrick Dennis along with Detroit Free Press' columnist Rochelle Riley. During my first year of college I attended Eastern Michigan University then transfered to Wayne State University where I studied for 3 years. I'm currently attending Kaplan University majoring in Communications with a focus in Journalism and Technical Writing. In 2008 I should be graduating and have earned my Bachelors of Science in Communications. With goals of becoming an entrepreneur I freelance about culture, politics, society, women, and whatever I think people should be informed about. In addition to freelancing I am the News Director of W.A.Y.N. radio station. I currently own an online travel agency, www.jesuislibretravel.com . In 2008 I will be launching my own magazine (Je Suis Libre) that focuses on connecting women all around the world. I'm currently working on 2 books that I hope to publish by 2009. Besides writing and freelancing I enjoy styling natural hair, and being active in my community. I also have an interest in documentary film making, speaking French fluently, and playing the guitar. I'm an aspiring civil rights, cultural, human rights, and women's rights activist. I hope to someday change the world through my writing and activism.

Greetings! I am also from the D and wanted to stop by to say hello. Where did you go to high school? I attended Cass Tech and am also a journalism grad. I attended Florida A & M University where I studied newspaper journalism; I graduated with my degree in '04 and have worked as a copy editor ever since. I am a freelance columnist and published author as well. After reading your "about me" section, I had to comment because we have so much in common. Continue to press sister like only you can!
Be the blessing,
DeAnnaLynette
