What really appealed to me was how much the parents/elders were involved in the ceremony. I thought this would be great to incorporate both my parents and maybe even my grandmother in this area and also his parents. I think its important that we get public blessings from both side.
He was a bit put off that there was no "ring ceremony" which I think I wiill incorporate but will be very basic with just words about how we feel about each other. No vows per se.
I'm still working it out in my mind.
And we are definately going to have Afro Caribbean dancers for the reception. He was telling me about this Dominican Popular song that had a dance to it that was the same movements you would find in African dancing. I thought that would be cool.
All I know is that with his people being from DR and my people being from Jamaica and Grenada, the food will HAVE to be good.
I don't want it to be a big production but I do want our families to have a good time.
it is cool
I got engaged in January, 07 and had to do an african ceremony( i am Nigerian). It was beautiful! my fiancee's family came to my house with wine, kolanuts, palm oil, pepper, cookies, and other nigerian foods. they did this according to custom that when you go to ask for a bride's hand, you come bearing gifts of food, wine and cash. It was so much fun. i came out with a hood over my face with my godmother and sister in law, looking for my husband. when I found him, I had to present him with palm wine to represent my submission to him and my acceptance of his propasal. We had a blast that night. Oh, good times!
well, have fun with yours and I wish you all the best.
Let Go and Let God!
How awesome!
I especially like how the bride comes in with her group of sisters at one time and the searching for the husband with the offering of Palm wine and showing her father that she had found now her husband...that was beautiful to me!!!!!!
