Just wondering.. how do you all maintain your natural hair, especially locs, do any of you have a set way and products that you use when washing and maintaining your hair? I have used so man things, yet I have not found anything to compliment my texture...which is EXTREMELY thick and coarse.
I have heard of some who plait or twist their hair before washing to ge to the scalp better, and those who only use natural ingredients...
Lets hear from you all..how do you maintain your natural do...what are some of your favorite products or steps to doing so???

Naturally Beautiful
I was always drawn to natural hairstyles before I even decide to get locs in my hair. I have had my locs for almost 4 years. There are so many products on the market now than before for natural hair but my favorite product is Knotty Boy-Canada this website has everything for maintaining locs. I find that leaving them alone and let your hair tell you what to do next. The sisters in my camp thought I was crazy. I hadn't twisted my hair in a year and all I used to do every morning was use a daily conditioner gave my hair a awesome shine, smells good no lint and very few lost locs. When I finally twisted it again I even receive compliments from the sisters who thought I was crazy. Crazy shine from root to tip and not flat and dry looking just healthy. www.knottyboy.com
hmmm locs..no set way
hmmm locs..no set way really. one has just got to find their own way. I am very lazy with mine but I use cold pressed castor oil (make sure it cold pressed), mixed with coconut oil as all round hair oil. When I wash I take very very long rinses, i do not use coconut milk because of build-ups, however I do use coconut water when I can. But after every long rinse of my locs I put a mixture of herbal water and honey into a jug of warm water and just puor it over my head. lives my hair soft and smelling nice.
Twisting and tightening...hmmm lazy for that too, but when I do, I use pure aloe gel or castor oil. I do not plait them as I don't like plaited locs at all! But i twist them from wet and what helps a lot is using herbal water whenever you twist. And the hair just grows really fast.
Ohm Body takes care of that...
The most common mistake ppl make when transitioning from non-natural do's to natural ones- is that they use the same products that might have worked well for chemically processed hair. Those products are specifically designed to work best with the lye and other toxic chemicals from "perms".
Ohm Body' s line of natural items provide greatness for before and after natural. From Herbal Shampoo that promote hair growth and moisture retention-to Whipped Shea Butter that NEVER leave you "ashy and dry"-you can find something for you personal needs.
From the fruit of one girl's dream tree, Ohm Body is here giving you sexy, natural, quality-handcrafted to perfection.

Re:Maintaining Locs & Natural hair
im 25 months into my 2nd set of locs ( had the 1st for almost 5 yrs). I wash every 7- 10 days, wrap my hair every night. I use eboni dawn shampoo diluted in a spray bottle. I condition every now & then-normally with coconut milk straight from the can- i used herb infused acv when i want to detox my lox. I use dif oils like castor and coconut along w/ dif essential oils as well while its damp or my water/ oil spritz combo. twist every 6- 8 weeks...im one of those ppl who hair loves oils.
EDIT: and no worries regarding buildup from coconut milk. Ive been using it for the longest & it leaves my locs soft.. coconut milk is water soluble & rinses well, so u dont have to worry about it @ all...
Re:Maintaining Locs & Natural hair
I started my locs on the 29th of september so I am one month in. I decided to semi freeform I started with 2-strand twists and I don't retwist, latchhook or palmroll.
I wash my hair weekly with african black soap. I dissolve it in water in a spray bottle and let that sit for a night, I spray my locs and scalp with it and massage it into my scalp then I rinse thoroughly and spray my locs with a mixture of wosa's 5 oil water and some castor oil. When my locs are almost dry I separate the roots and that's it.
On a daily basis I spritz my locs with water with a few drops of wosa's 5 oil.
At night I wear a stockingcap to protect my locs from lint and drying out.
Blessings,
Chayil

GREETINGS from ILLINOIS !!
I hope this post reaches you and family growing well. I had the opportunity to read the information you shared regarding Locks and Natural Hair care maintenance. You often mentioned an oil called, " WASA 5 oil water. " Question: Where can I get some??? I, too, am seeking healthy ways to care for my natural hair.
I'm thanking you in advance for acknowledging my inquiry !!
Happy to be Nappy
Hello Sisters,
I've decided to go natural. It's been a few months since I had my last perm, so what do I do now?

Re:Maintaining Locs & Natural hair
I have had locs for almost 2 years. and I've always been drawn toward simplicity when it comes to the upkeep of my hair. with my locs i shampoo and condition at least once a week. in the summer time or when i workout i rinse my hair inbetween shampoos.
i don't use any additonal products however when i put aloe on my face i'll rub the excess into my hair.
I maintain my locs using a latch hook. and i latch my roots approximately every 2 months. and whenever i'm bored i sit and separate my roots then wrap stray hairs around the nearest loc. for me all this is fairly simple. i run into snags when i fail to separate my roots right after washing. im kinda lazy with it. lol
Re:Maintaining Locs & Natural hair
I've had locs now for 4 years. I love them and I don't do much. I wash them every couple of weeks with an occasional rinse in between. I retwist while they are still damp. I do the front and edges every few weeks and my whole head every 6 weeks or so. To twist my locs I use a combination of loc butter (from Carol's Daugher) and a liight loc gel.
Aside from that, I wrap my hair every night. I have a few light oils I use from time to time as well.

Re:Maintaining Locs & Natural hair
Hello Sisters,
I actually have a question instead of a reply to this topic. I have had sisterlocs for about a year now, and I am considering taking the retightening class, which from what I can tell is simply latch hooking in an cross pattern. I was just wondering if you can change your tightening technique once your hair begins to loc? For example, starting with sisterlocs then twisting to maintain.
Peace
