Tenaystallin Royal sisters!
I am posting this post primarily for the sisters who make clothing, or the sisters who dress in modest (long skirts) apparel.... Where do we find long skirts? Long denim skirts? Or even tunics? 3/4 sleeve tops with style and culture?
As a natural wombman, on a low budget, with serious apparel standards, I am wondering how other sisters find the right clothes? I am extra tall so often times, even on those rare occasions when I do find a long skirt, it's never quite long enough!
Any suggestions would be blessed!
Give thanks

LIVE LOVE LAUGH BECAUSE WE ARE SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL
Greetings my Sisters,
I love wearing Dasheki's , I have some that I have had for awhile and they are strting to wear thin with the wear and wash process, Does anyone have a pattern or know where I can obtain a easy sew pattern. None of the pattern books that I have looked in ( Walmart, Target) carry them. And I love them so, They are rather exspensive in all of the little botiques and shops, So if anyone can help a sister out please let me know
blessinngs from the masters hand and plan.
Busy Artistic Queens
I wish I had time to sew! In the meantime, my only option is online, and all the skirts I find are either too short, too bland, or I can't tell from the picture.
Ok, so I need it all... style, comfort, 38-40" length skirts, or long shirts that are loose around my mother-hips, and at a good price!
The one site I really love is rebirthofchic.com. The pictures are very clear, and everything I've received is as I saw it online. Their stuff is long, loose, unique (some roots undercurrents), and I found out it is owned by sisters! Some of their items are pricey, but if you use their discount coupons and free shipping offers (or catch a good find in their clearance section), you can get a good deal and well worth it!
I know this is about skirts, but it's HARDER to find long shirts! This was my favorite- it's so comfy: http://rebirthofchic.com/inc/sdetail/1706
May God bless this beautiful community. I'm happy to have found you.
PEACE.

About the tunics and three-quarters-sleeved tops
1) Trendy tunic referrals from my site. I've got shirt and blouse links lumped in with the tunic links, but there aren't that many stores that you couldn't find the ones with tunics.
2) Some of these stores overlap with the ones in #1 (the difference being that the stores in #1 are more trendy), but I list quite a few more stores too that carry tunics and three-quarters-sleeved shirts.
3) Pakistani/Indian clothing stores sell oodles of tunics. You know all those glittery, glitzy tunics you see in all the stores these days…they are Indian kurtis, and most of these stores sell them.
4) Lots of stores that sell African clothing, Afrocentric clothing, and African-inspired clothing carry modest styles of skirts and tunics.
TIP!!!!!!
If you haven't noticed already, you'll notice soon enough that lots of tunics are quite sheer. If it's modesty you're after, you'll enjoy my already published tip for what to wear under them.
"If you’re looking for long chemise or long camisoles to wear under longer styles of sheer shirts, including tunics and South Asian kameez & kurti, check out the following link for long chemise: Reems Eastern Fashions. They have hard-to-find colored chemise. Run-of-the-mill camisoles are not long enough for the longer styles of shirts. If you dont want a line showing about halfway down your shirt where the camisole ends, try a chemise or try what a friend of mine did. She altered a full slip by shortening it and adding side slits thus making a long camisole/chemise. I was looking for chemise to wear under two semi-sheer tunics I had when I saw her invention, so I went online and promptly bought two full slips to cut off to two different lengths. The chemise at Reems Eastern Fashions
, but they dont have it for sale anymore.) If you need maternity chemise, I think the second option is the best (altering a full-cut slip) because I havent seen maternity chemise. Another option is to alter a maternity full slip—make it shorter if needed, and cut out wide side slits to match up to the slits on the tunic (kameez)."
is very inexpensive. I wanted more coverage on top, so I got a
full-cut slip. The one I got was 100% cotton so it keeps me cool underneath. (I got mine at AmeriMark

Long skirts-some cheap and some not
I've got the same problem. Being a Muslim and being tall, I need my skirts to be 44" long and with no slits that expose skin. I run the Modest Clothing Directory, so I've got lots of ideas for long skirts.
1) (I didn't get a chance to finish posting this yesterday, so I got scooped.) The absolute cheapest places to find the largest selection (hundreds) of very long skirts with no slits are Somali-run markets. I live in the U.S., Minnesota in particular, and there is a huge Somali population here. There are a couple of indoor, bazaar-type malls in Minneapolis that are populated by hundreds of Islamic clothing stalls run by Somali women and men (mostly women). One may bargain down to $15/skirt. If you're really good at bargaining, you can get them for $5 or $10. Drawback: Where you do find Somali-run malls besides Minneapolis? I don't know actually. (If you're a reader who knows, let me know because I want to post it on my Web site for others.)
2) I've been asking Shukr Islamic Clothing to carry skirts in my length, but they say the market isn't sustainable. They are a fair-trade company, so they are not cheap, but their skirts are modest and fashionable. Tip: Sign up for their newsletter and wait for one of their good sales. They have a winter clearance sale going on right now--up to 70% off.
3) http://www.denimlongskirt.com/ Long denim and tencel skirts custom to your height. Drawback: Not as cheap as the Somali stores!
4) Of course there are the stores that carry clothing specifically for tall ladies.
5) Lots of stores catering to Orthodox Jewish women carry long, modest skirts too. Drawback: May not be long enough for tall women.
6) And the obvious one. Seamstresses. Here is one such store where you can order a reasonably priced, custom-made skirt. Drawback: not too fashionable.

I also love sewing my own skirts. It's an easy and economical way to create exactly what you need as far as modet clothing. I no longer have my sewing machine and have had to find other resources. I recently discovered that the local Somolian owned stores have an abundance of long, modest clothing. Of course they would if most of the women are Muslim! Why didn't I think of that before. My mother and I love going to thrift stores and I find most of my clothing there. There are beautiful skirts and dresses taht are long enough for me. I'm 5'7" and have no problem finding modest clothing in these places.
I plan to purchase another sewing machine thsi year and get to making more of my own clothing again. I pray you find what you're looking for.

Love The Sewing Idea!!
LOVE LIFE LAVA!!!
I can really relate to this issue, I hardly ever find long skirts in the stores, and it hard to pay for custom made skirts sometimes. The best bet is to make them your self. Its not that hard I cant even sew but I used to make nice ones from my jeans. When I decided I wasnt going to where pants anymore I cut all my jeans and made the skirts by hand. yeah I dont have those anymore LOL but I tried and they came out very nice I even put some of them in a fashion show. So it can be done, I would love to learn how to sew properly so the sewing corner is a superb idea some of the sistrens who live in the same region can get together, that would be great! And I dont know if you reside in brooklyn sis but there are the sistrens downtown brooklyn dont remember their names but they had a booth in fulton mall they still have one in kings plaza there all over the place now but they sell really nice long wrap skirts they also can double as a beautiful calf length dress they are great there $55 in the summertime they have light fabric tie die ones for $20 they are very cool. The African fabric store can also make really nice skirts fora reasonable price and you can choose your own fabric there is AfrikArt on livingston, and a whole bunch along church avenue. Feel like im talkin a whole lot, I really look forward to seeing the outcome of this I enjoyed being able to input.

Tall skirts..for the Empress??
Yes, fashionable and tasteful longskirts can be a needle in a haystack! I can usually find atleast one on each of these sites:
spiegel.com
newport-news.com
and google long skirts in images, usually shopzilla will show you every long skirt from every store or site that makes one.
last resort...? Learn to sew, or hire a good seamstress.
Good Luck...Jah Guide!
