Greetings ymib fam!
Summer here, with all those cute strappy tops and dresses, I wanted to ask you ladies how you keep your underarms looking and feeling soft and healthy...
The reason I ask is because it seems to be a topic that comes up a lot in black websites and forums - especially on how to keep this sensitive area even toned (as many womben experience dark areas in their underarms)....
So what do you d to keep your underarms beautiful?
I'm only ever use natural deodrants now, exfoliating and adding moisture to this area wth shea butter every night as a break from deo - it really has made a huge difference to even out my skin tone in this area.
I would also love to hear if hair removal makes a difference to you?
I read this statement on a website that talks on dark underarms - I thought it was interesting: "It is best if you wax your underarms regularly. Underarms generally look dark due to thick hair under the skin, caused by shaving. Waxing removes hair from the root, so there is no hair under the skin, and the underarms look clean. Also, regular waxing reduces hair growth over a period of time. How long it takes differs from person to person. Often, as soon as you wax for the first time after shaving for a long time, your underarms look much cleaner and lighter. This is because the hair is a lot thicker, so the wax gets a good grip and pulls it all out. There are chances your armpits may bleed very slightly, so don't get unduly worried if this happens."
So, do you find waxing is a less harmful method than others (shaving, creams, etc)
Please share.
Give thanks!
It All Sounds Good!
None of your routines sounds weird to me.They are all unique and works for you.I might try that baking soda one though, cause the crystal alone doesn't work for me.You can take half a lemon and rub it there at nite and wash it off in the morning.Lemons have natural astringent & skin lightening properties.IT Works for knees and elbows too.Back to the orig.question, well the few times I've tried waxing underarms ,I had a sticky, gooey mess and it didn't remove much hair if any.I never let the hair grow in long enough I guess for it to actually work.So my questions is,what kind or which brand of wax do you use and do you allow the hair to grow a lot back in when you do it?I hope you don't have to let it grow back in cause I can't stand hair under my arms.Peace, Indigo
Touchy subject
I am encredibly sensitive when it comes to this subject. See I have (had?) this illness called Hidradenitis wich is an awfully painful chronic illness. Where ever you have creases on the skin boils can appear. Not small tiny boils but the kind that are painful caus fever and have to be surgically removed. I used to be operated on about once every 2 months until I turned to Ras Tafari Livity. I have put my faith in the hands of the Most High eat Ital take care of my body by doing yoga using only natural products like sheabutter/olive oil etc on my body and most important I refuse to get operated on caus that triggers my anemia! Right now I have a very small (but quite painful) boil in my left armpit I put clay and castoroil packs at night and steam them off with a hot washcloth in the morning. Slowly but surely it is disappearing. When it comes to hairremoval I have no hair due to the surgery and a few lasersurgeries as well but my armpits look like a roadmap due to all the surgical scars I am extremely selfconsious about it. I never ever ever wear tank or tubetops and when I go to swim I only remove my t-shirt when I go into the water. My girlfriends and cousins told me that it is not as bad as I imagine but I can't imagine "showing them to the world". I know this might sound extremely vain but it is one of the reasons that I took so long to leave my ex, I just do not feel to show my scars to another man! I pray that wichever man I end up with that he will be able to look past my scars and love me for me.
Blessings,
Chayil

after bathing/shaving...
...pure oils like lavender/peppermint really work. Not sure what's done to lighten the darker spots.
underarm weirdness
My routine is a little wierd. I was always sensitive to most deo ,but after I got hives I was no longer able to use traditonal deo. I now use the crystal.. which is amazing because I have no odor. I mix 3-4 tablespoons of corn starch with 2 tablespoons of bakingsoda in a small glad tupperwear bowl. The corn starch is for the sweast absorbents and the baking soda to make sure there isnt odor causing bacteria on my shirts.. this works great on: hot summer days, going to: clubs, parties, and bars, also anytime I dont want pit stands. My reactive hypoglycemia makes me have a whole lot of diabetic sweat (its just water with no odor). I also use an electric ravor snce my skin is so sensitive. I moisturize with my whipped pudding from Oyin handmade, makes the skin extra soft.

my method...
LIke u I exfoliate my pits as well. that def gets rid of deoderant build up which attributes to dark pits in conjuntions w/ dead skin , but I shave W/ the venus shaver. Ive contemplated getting them waxed. its about that time right about now for a lil shave. maybe Ill get it waxed & post my results.
I USE THE....................
I USE THE NATURAL DEO. TOO BUT DANCING AND PERFORMING I AM SOAKED AT THE END OF THE NIGHT AND THAT DEO JUST DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING BUT WHEN I USE THE OTHER KIND OF DEO: LIKE DEGREE ETC I KNOW ITS BLOCKING THE SWEAT GLANDS WHICH ISN'T GOOD EITHER BUT IT WORKS FOR WHAT I DO. WHAT I STARTED DOING WAS IF I KNOW I DON'T HAVE A SHOW I'LL WEAR THE NATURAL DEO. I DO EXFOLIATE AND THIS MAY SOUND WIERD BUT I HAVE TRIED MANY BODY EXFOLIANTS AND THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED FOR ME WAS THE CLEAN AND CLEAR FACIAL SCRUB PADS LOL YES I SAID IT LOL IT TOOK THE DIRT BUILD UP OFF FROM THE HARMFUL DEOS. NOW THE SHEA BUTTER(WHICH I LOVE) I USE IT ON EVERYTHING I DIDN'T KNOW U COULD USE IT IN REPLACE OF DEO THOUGH. MY QUESTION IS WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE AND DOES IT KEEP U FRESH ALL DAY? PEACE AND LOVE THANK U
