It feels that we live in a world where society still misunderstands shyness and where shyness apparently has no place in the success story. Shyness is spoken about as if it is a negative trait. I have often heard people say that shy people didn't have much to say about anything or are boring.

I often wonder if this illusion is what makes naturally shy people feel isolated or unconnected to others. Exploring the shy self is something that many people feel – It just seems some people are better at hiding it than others.

In truth, a shy soul is something to celebrate! Shyness is not negative and can be used as a great tool to expand Self and for others to love and learn from.

Here are a few things to consider about your shy self:

Nurture your natural ability to be the observer.

Shy self is a natural observer. Instead of using your energy into wondering why you don't fit in or didn't feel open in a place/group, use this as an opportunity to explore your observation skills.

A few questions that you may like to ask:

What is that this moment is revealing to you?

How are the people in your life interacting with each other?

What can you learn from your observations?

How can you use this tool to work on your Self and share your gift to the world?

Shine with empathy!

Empathy is the ability to feel or sense the emotions of others around you – in people and in animals. Empathy is working with your instincts to explore the world. Those who feel empathy are sensitive to their environment in a highly charged way.

Tune into this. You now have a tool to live each moment in a new level of over-standing. You can now paint each moment as a picture where you see the inside version, not just the outer appearance.

Ground your Self daily.

Take 5-10 minutes of every day to ground your Self.

This is a simple meditation to use:

Sit in a quiet and comfortable place where you know you will not be disturbed. For this time, imagine that you are slowly growing roots from beneath you, like a tree expanding. Continue to grow these roots slowly and in tune with your breathing pattern. Imagine that as you grow these roots, love is being taken from the Earth and into your Self. Feel your lower back and abdomen area being filled with positive energy and love energy. Enjoy this meditation for as long as you like. When it is time to end, thank your Self for this moment.

Find an outlet to express your Self.

This is your time to be creative in any way you can. To be creative, you won't need to have experience in art or words. Creativity does not need the approval of others – you don't even need to show anyone your work if you prefer it that way. All you need is time, a chance to do something new and to allow your Self to be free to express.

Choose something that you enjoy or will like to explore and just do it. Beginning a journal is an easy way to explore your creativity with writing and to use for reflection.

In each moment, there is a creative opportunity to see another angle and to challenge your old way of thinking.

Use your observations and empathy to guide you.

Use your creativity to express your inner self to the world.

Do one thing a day to challenge your fears.

To be shy is not a negative thing. However, to live in fear is.

Make a conscious effort to do one thing a day that will challenge your fear. This can be small or large, depending on what you feel ready for.

Challenge your shyness so that it is not a negative factor that holds you in fear. Instead, let your shy self be a tool to free and embrace your inner evolution!
