The Holistic-Urban Lifestyle

Balancing the big city with a natural lifestyle may seem impossible. When I first moved to London, I was overwhelmed by the mass concrete, the smell of pollution and noise as I went about my daily business, asking myself – How can anyone begin their journey in such an urban setting, where nature seems to be so cut off from everyday life? Is it even possible? As excited as I was about this new place, I was unsure where to begin about the new steps I wanted to take.

Slowly and surely, I was to discover that city life was not that bad after all – behind all the mesh of what seemed to be solid city wall lay a wide and thriving community of holistic and natural places and spaces. The perfect blend of creative holistic crowds and artists.

I love these shops! Apart from the wonderful products they sell, there are bound to be leaflets and event flyers posted up all over the shop. A brilliant way to find out what holistic events are in your area is to take a few flyers and leaflets in every visit to the health shop. Every visit is guaranteed a new lesson if you take the time to read, ask questions and browse the shelves for ideas.

No matter what city you are in, I'm sure you will find an online source of holistic events in your area! Take the time to browse the web for holistic directories in your area- this is probably the most likely place to find out what events are going on that may interest you.

Nature is everywhere - it has a funny way of showing up where you least expect … creeping between pavement tiles, over-riding the train tracks, climbing down street walls - look around! Just when you thought you were isolated from it, it will remind you that it is still present and alive.

One way to begin the holistic journey is to start your own gardening at home. Maybe you could start having potted herbs and plants indoors to brighten the space you live in. Plants have a beautiful way of energising any space, cleansing the air and softening the city landscape.

The city can be chaotic and crazy at times - make the place you live a space where you can come home and relax. A haven within the city space - an inner sanctuary to grow. That way you get the best of both worlds. Bring the outdoors, indoors!

All year around, the city continues to live and expand. During the summer months, there are usually many events and festivals – this is a sure way to find stalls and people selling and promoting their holistic work. Network, ask questions, collect flyers and enjoy meeting new people!

Even during the winter months, there are many chances to visit outdoor and indoor markets. Take every chance to look around and explore these spaces and I'm sure you'll find new opportunities!

Every holistic therapy is connected to a professional association or organization. Get in touch with a local holistic therapist or association for information on events in your area. Some associations like to offer free tester events where the public can try out the services on offer. They are usually very helpful with questions and information.

Any place that sells magazines and books will have a health section. Grab your copy today of magazines that are related to holistic, natural or health conscious material. Practical and useful, these magazines have a large selection of adverts and directories of places to visit.

To begin a new journey, work on you. Work on your visions, work on ways to explore your ambitions and the reasons behind it. Become the new person you wish to be. Allow your Self to be this new person. Accept transition and the tests that come with it. And don't forget to be gentle with your Self as you go through change. You will attract people and places that reflect who you are. Shine bright and attract the best!

It may take some time and patience to begin with – just as all new journeys do! Enjoy the process and be open to meeting new people. As with all new steps, you might find that this is not only a time to explore new places to visit but also a time for reflection about how you wish to live your life. With the holistic lifestyle, you will grow with everything new you find!
