My crazy hair, it causes so many conversations. From my strange heritage I have peppermint stick size curls, straw size, lil coils and then alot of random straight hair!! It gives me a headache.. so I have been thinking about getting Sisterlocks. All of the source I have came across don't tell what that are really; it seems that the "professionals" don't want you to know how they are done. I don't know about you but as for me I didn't go natural to have someone doing some unknown process to my hair. I mean really. I know it's trademarked but thats really strange. I don't want to have to get them and have to run back , get them tighten as if I am gettting a touch up on a relaxer.
If anyone has any knowledge on Sisterlocks please let me know. I want to be fully informed before taking this step in my life.

Greetings...
Im not for sure what you mean by Sister Locks...
I suggest if you really want to lock up. It will be very easy for you to maintain and care for your locks........ You can either start by parting your hair in squares and then two twist or twist your hair with some honey wax.(dont use to much). If your not for sure about locks.. I say do the two twist for a while to see how it feels.. its just like that except its natty... and then every two week or month or two months or so.. or never again, you can twist your roots.
there are also many resources where you can find information on starting and keeping your locks.
http://nappturality.com is one of many
I myself am on my second and last set of locks.. My first set I went to a African Braiding Shop and the womban two twisted them really tight.. then I just left it along and twisted the roots every so months... this time I just stop combing my hair.
hope this helped.
one love

I decided to lock my hair 6 years ago. I cut all my hair off and started with an inch of hair. I love my natural hair. Why can't you lock your hair the traditional way? There are other methods. It takes time and patience, but it can be done.
thanks
Thanks for the insight. I had no idea they were that costly! Thats like a year of relaxers! Thank you so much this will diffently effect my decision.
God's breath rubs my cheek.

I've been contemplating sisterlocks myself. A co-worker of mine has them. They are expensive (too me) about $500 -$700 to get them started depending on where you go and then you have to go back every 6 weeks to get them tightened @$60 -$80. They use some sort of "crotchet" type tool and basically crotchet your hair. It still takes some time for them to form. Good luck!
May your path be illuminated by the brightness of your spirit.
