If you haven't read my little profile blurb, then you don't know that I am a jewelry designer. Currently, I make one or two of kind styles and sell them on etsy, which is a great marketplace for handmade goods of any kind. Below are pictures of some of my products and a link to my shop. Please feel free to look around. In the fall, I will be attending The Fashion Institute of Technology in Jewelry Design. I am very excited and nervous as it is a huge risk financially and professionally, but time waits for no man (or woman). Anyway, have a look see.

I design clothing, but don't sew much and am working to improve on my skills and learn how to draft my own patterns. I also design tees, jewelry, accessories, and graphics. I have a burning passion to begin a clothing line in the very near future, but don't have the capital I need and to be honest, credit isn't very good either and I would rather try to get grants and raise money other ways, if possible. I have a lot of time on my hands and at this point, will do WHATEVER I can to make it in the design world. I just need that chance and want to learn as much as I can about it all. I plan to go back to school here in July for Fashion and Retail Management, but I don't know that I'm willing to wait 4 years to make something happen just so I can have a degree.
So what I'm asking is...do you all have any advice for:
raising money
ways to market myself
how to make sure I'm targeting the right market
and/or just tips on what to do and not do when starting a company/clothing line???
I sincerely appreciate anything you all can help me with!
Peace, Love, and God Bless,
Kendra

... especially if they are from jewelry designer Myisha Croom-Turner of Brace Yourself Boutique! When becoming a member of the BBWO, I came across Myisha's page she had photos of her creations posted, just a 2 minute glance and I was off spending my money on her website. Why? First, she is a bbwo member, and if I am here to network and to gain support, so is she, so why not put out what I want in return. Second, she is a wife, mother, and a indie business woman like myself. Third, I could not stop salivating over all the pretty things!

Top 5 reasons on why you should come...
1. Enjoy a showcasing and SALE of the fabulous original designs of 3 local artists:
Creations by genesis
Makeda Designs
Of Earth and Elegance
2. Stimulate your palette with mouth-watering ethnic vegan cuisine by:
Soulfully Righteous
3. Be inspired by the verbal ingeniousness by 3 local poets:
Carlos
Yesod
& Afrikess
4. Get your Jones on with DJ Buddha LuvJonz providing the soundtrack
5.
Take advantage of this awesome opportunity to network, network, network!!!

NN: Words can't describe the way I felt when I happened upon Tisha Brown's delectable earrings...I'm drawn to designers that create with simplicity and chicness, and Rebel Chic is just that! Who is Tisha Brown?
RC: Tisha Brown is a girl who appreciates the beauty in simple things. Whether designing jewelry or styling, there is an art in making a statement with simplicity.
NN: As a fashion stylist and costume designer first, one would think you would possibly be more drawn to designing clothing, why jewelry?
This is for the ladies that watch America's Next Top Model. First, let me preface my sadness at this season's make overs by saying YAY MARVITA! I am so glad that she came back this season. She was my favorite out of all the girls from last season and was shocked that she didn't get picked for the show.

Loving what is original and unique, I am inspired to create one of a kind wearable art accessories to add to any woman's individual style.
View my eclectic collection of wearable art at http://fufulindas.com. I am located in Sunny San Diego California, I am currently meeting the needs of starved for one of a kind wears all up and down the west coast. I am always on the look out for more indie crazed individuals who crave to be unique. Remember Fufulinda's ....' cause ev'ry girl has a lil' fufu in her!

As a designer I look for inspiration every where. One place of course that always and will always inspire me is Afrika, our birth place. Who can resist the rich fabrics, specially hand died with wax telling stories of all kind. As other companies in other countries try to replicate and call it African print, the quality will tell it all. Using organic fabric (it's absorbs dye better) and natural dyes such as indigo the quality always speaks out. The colors so bright and vibrant. Afrikan Batik has always been my choice of fabric for my designs.
I sat on the net one day and decided to search for Afrikan designers in Afrika and was wondering why the Europeans living in South Afrika was popping up. So I kept searching as found a slew of them, but one in particular stood out, Sungoddess. I was so inspired by there designs and wanted to own a few pieces. I was disappointed the website http://www.sungoddess.co.za/ was down, but as I looked through publications and watched for pictures I came across a link that was still active on their web base of past collections. All I could say was Wow!! Just see for yourself; http://www.sungoddess.co.za/sungoddess.htm
I am totally loving the East Indian inspired designs of Indian Designer Ritu Kumar. She blends the color, patterns, and textures that you might find on traditional East Indian clothing and décor into modern, indian-bohemian type of pieces that is filled with rough edges and simple cuts...Love It!

I've had tons of emails asking where to by my designs and now finally my online store has been updated, and restocking has began.
You will find one of a kind designs that you will not find anywhere else, custom ordering, ability to build your own designs and more.
Visit today, www.jahzaradesignstudio.com.
*All products are shipped two weeks from order date unless noted.
You can also find me in Brockton, Mass @ Natural Vibes, LLC 702 N. Main St. 508.586.0314 and online; www.naturalvibes1.com.
If you live in New York, Nicholas Variety also carries my designs, so stay tuned as they will be receiving new items shortly.

So, after looking at the color forecast for the next spring/summer season, I must say that it seems to be filled with subdued colors that are not too flashy with not a lot of pop, but seems to focus a bit more on the shape and the cut of the garment. I am really feelin Tracy Reeses 2008 Spring Summer collection. It is not quite as whimsical as S/S 07, but you can never go wrong with Tracy Reese. I think I mostly like her summer "prints" the best and the lavender, yellows, and muted reds are fabulous! Makes me want to go out and find cute pair of yellow shoes..the yellow umbrella ensemble is darling, and that printed baby blue skirt is fantastic!!! I adore Tracy...don't you?
