New York Fashion Week just wrapped and that inspired me to write an entry on eco-fashion and shed some light on what it means to be a Conscious fashionista.

Images that come to mind when one thinks of the term eco-fashion are baggy hemp pants and faded t-shirts.  In other words, I expect the look to be kinda cheap.  Stella McCartney, changed all of that with her high fashion designs which illuminated the concept of Conscious fashion.

Sustainable, Green or Eco-Fashion- whatever you want to call it- basically means creating fashion that uses the least amount if the earth's resources as possible and no chemicals. 

For example, plenty of cotton crops are sprayed with harmful pesticides but clothes made with organic cotton are pesticide-free. Organic refers to any material that is naturally derived and doesn't use genetically modified organisms.

Ok fam this is another sneak peak for your eyes only. This is the Accessory Line of bags. We will release these bags very soon they are made from a mix of fabrics Bazin with leather trim, and Mud Cloth (Bogolafini) and leather trim. The collection consists of 3 designs clutch, shoulder bag, and tote. They are fully lined with premium lining a zipper pocket for phone and closes with magnet.

The collection was made to be quite diverse, with the fabrics ranging from the most eco friendly fabric on the planet too high end bazin fabrics. The one key aspect that ties the collection together is the craftsmanship and lengthy process of creating each fabric.

I found some very cute earrings to day at the flea market. I went there to get some oils and I always like to walk around to this one particular booth where this man sells jewelry handmade by his family in Africa. They are a diamond shaped white stone like or maybe mother of pearl. I asked him what it was and he said Ivory as in from the tooth of an Elephant.

I'm gonna have to get these checked to make sure, because I don't want any Innocent elephants to die on the account of me wearing cute earrings. Also, I don't want PETA starting a rally in front of my house lol!!

Vlisco is a producer of the fine West African fabrics that are becoming more and more popular with non-African designers. The company is situated in Netherlands of all places.

(Did you know this is where ShweShwe fabrics come from too? The Europeans made it, sold it to Africa then when it became the Shweshwe phenomenon it is today, the African designers sold it back to Europeans in the form of 'African fashion'.)
