There are so many beautiful goddess out there inspiring others to dive into a more natural state, so we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our favorite natural women who are spreading the word about how natural beauty can be beautifully diverse! If you would like to be featured on "What's In Her Hair", then send us an e-mail to: crownnubian (at) ymib.com!
Who: Franchesa Ramsey
Where: Franchesca.net & Chescaleigh
Why: Because not only does Franchesca adorn us with her beautiful locs and fabulous styling tutorials, but she embodies a triad of creative talents ie: stand up comedy, graphic design, and a songbird voice that's graceful and beautiful, and she is also crafty(which we all love here) and makes the cutest crocheted cloches ever! Basically, she is a must to highlight here within the YMIB Circle.
Her Favorite Natural Hair Links/Books: I love LeCoil! It's full of inspiring and beautiful photos of natural ladies with gorgeous hair. Also, Fly Girls, which is a wonderfully designed site highlighting natural hair and fly girl style!
ymib: What are your favorite styling tools & products?
Franchesca: My imagination is my favorite styling tool! I think most people assume that locs aren't versatile, but that simply isn't the case. If I see a style I like, I try to recreate it as best I can and come up with creative ways to make the style my own! To be honest, I'm not much of a product junkie. I use whatever is affordable and at arms length. Lately I've been using Organic Root Simulator's Loc & Twist Gel, Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizer Hair Lotion and Mane and Tail Shampoo.
ymib: What's your daily hair regimen and hairstyles?
Franchesca: I try to re-twist my hair every 2 - 3 weeks. It just depends on how lazy I am :) It generally takes me an hour to an hour and a half, depending on if I'm braiding it, putting my hair in rollers or just wearing it straight. My hairstyles change almost daily. I've worn everything from bantu knots, Shirley temple curls, updos, braid outs, beehives, side ponytails, big buns, victory rolls, mowhawks, bunhawks, pig tails and most recently even the infamous Lady GaGa hairbow!
ymib: What do you love most about being natural?
Franchesca: Walking home in the rain and knowing my hair looks just fine. Letting my boyfriend play with my hair because he can't "mess it up". Not wasting thousands of dollars a year on expensive products and chemical treatments. Diving head first into the pool. No swimming cap required! Being able to embrace the fact that my hair is beautiful just the way God made it.
Nice!
She is simply beautiful and I love her locs! I am inspired and look forward to length again as this is my second and final time around!!
Love Love Love it
I normally just let my locs just lay there. This has been inspirational to get busy!
Thanks so much!
Humility before Honor...
I convinced not to cut my LOCS!!!
Ok, I am another one who was seriously thinking about cutting my locs because I didn't know what to do with them. Not that I don't like locs, I LUV LOCS. I just wasn't feeling mine. Your hair is beautiful!!!
Thanks
So inspirational
I use to always watch her utube videos. She always had the most cute and creative hairstyles for locs. I'm am very pleased to she her being spot lighted in Whats In Her Hair YAY!!!! I'm going through a "hair transition" now and back in August decided to relax my har after being natural for almost four years!!! . Right now I'm wearing the Rihanna cut. And its really cute! But I will admit I miss my natural roots. You know what they say right.... you never know what you have until its gone lol. But fortunately I can get my roots back. And I plan to do locs this time around. Its not quit the right time yet because I'm still getting myself together and trust me when I decide to loc I wanna make sure I have no negative energy to be stored in my hair :) but until I know and feel in my soul the time is right I will continue to be inspired by my sisters. Love and Peace always. Jennifer
