Mama Tips 1-2-3: Planning: Shopping: Imagination

1. Grocery Shopping: Do you ever find yourself rambling in the kitchen thinking “what am I going to cook for dinner today”? Or how about that time of the week or month when it is time to do the heavy grocery shopping and you just get tired thinking about it all. A great way to ease the pain and rush of grocery shopping & meal planning for your family is to have pre-made grocery lists. Many times I find myself writing out grocery lists that contain the same exact things that I bought at my last trip to the market. So, having a pre-made list with all of your essentials will save you a lot of time & energy. Just keep some extra space for new ingredients needed for your current menu.

2. Meal Planning: Many times I would find myself rushing into the kitchen at about 5:00 thinking “what am I going to cook for dinner”. I think most moms can relate. Taking one day to do the meal planning for 2 weeks to even a month will do you a lot of justice! As a busy mom, this is an essential to keeping your sanity & you might notice a little less money being spent when you go grocery shopping, because you will not pick up any unnecessary items that would just go unused.

3. Kids: Imagination: Reading: Kids love to pretend and they all seem to have such a vivid imagination. Translate their ability to make up the most imaginative and silliest stories into a personal story and or coloring book that they will love. Sit down with them and make up a story together. Ask them questions like what is your story about?, what happens next?, and be sure to ask descriptive questions like: colors, shapes, names, locations, etc. I do this with my 4 year old and he loves it. As he is telling me what happens next along with the descriptive words, I write the story down on some drawing paper(sometimes I illustrate the scene, so for the artsy to somewhat artsy moms, this could be good for you) and sometimes I just let him draw out the picture of the scene. This activity makes them excited about reading because they came up with the story themselves. I also write the key words that are used in the story in the front of the book so that we can practice them whenever.
