So, as I was using one of my favorite pass time social tools aka twitter (click here to follow ymib!) I saw a tweet by CaliNative about the upcoming film Precious starring Monique, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, and introducing Gabourey Sidibe as Precious. I must say that this film (a Lee Daniels film presented by Oprah Winfrey & Tyler Perry...need I say more) looks intense and artistically performed. I have not had the chance to read the book in which this film is based on entitled "Push" by Sapphire, but from what I have heard & read, it is an intense read as well!
The film will be opening in some theaters in New York & Los Angeles on November 6th and will be in theaters thereafter. I cannot wait to see this film as I love movies that are not only well written but offers up that artistic quality that makes you want to stand to your feet and clap bravo & from the looks of the trailer, it is definitely worth more than a hand clap!

This book is so gritty and raw....
when I read it as a teenager I was shocked that this subject was even touched upon. It stirred up such emotions on me that I became somewhat of a vigilante when it came to children and incest/rape/,molestation. I can't wait for this movie to hit because it will cause much needed controversy and talk that this is and has been rampant in the African-American community. But I wonder will they keep all of the material in the movie that is from the book because it is so raw.

i also love sapphire's work. it makes you cringe, but it's the bare-knuckle truth.
i know there are going to be all kinds of detractors, but the reality is that this is the pain that many blk folks are carrying and passing on to their babies each and every day. and it's not going to stop until we SEE it & talk about it.
