A black lily is a flower, one of the rarest varieties. Similarly, the Black Lily brand is known for developing and promoting cutting-edge women artists, of all races, nationalities, and backgrounds, whose voices have often been lost in the shuffle of our commercially dictated culture.
What: The 2nd Annual Black Lily Film Festival
When: May 1st through May 4th, 2008

Wouldn't miss it!
I'm a Philly native...and I made it to one event last year. It was a wonderful experience! I was introduced to so many artistic sisters! It was all LOVE! I was so impressed by all the talent and sisterhood...I would indeed feel blessed to win the passes to the festival events. I'm a full time student, and to quote E. Badu, "my money's funny!"
I offer my sincere praise and gratitude to the sisters who continue to put these types of events together here in Philly...we need more sisterhood and more community, and these events inspire connections and reinforce positive images of black women!
Amen.
Not just a festival, a tool
Not just a festival, a tool of empowerment for women and girls. I wish there were more girls-only programs which immersed them in hip hop culture. I wish there were more outlets for independent women artists. They are the future of the movement and will be at the forefront of real change. If I am not there this year, I will get there next year. Rock on, Black Lily!
