Sugar Butterfly Pendant

You may have caught a glance of Candace Marquettes fabulous purse designs and jewelry on HGTV's Crafters Coast To Coast, and now Candace takes a moment to share a craft project with us! Here she breaks down each step on how to make a wooden circular pendant and chain necklace. So go ahead and use your creativity and let your imagination lead the way!

5 inch flat nose pliers (jewelry making)

Drill (if you don't have a drill, you can use a nail and hammer. Make sure

that the nails are big enough to make large holes for the jump rings.)

3/32 drill bit

paint brush (crafting)

pencil

Butterfly stamp (Stampin' It UP)

paper

Piece of thick wood

Wooden Nickel circle (Wood Shoppe)

Lipstick Red acrylic paint

Black acrylic paint

Silver marker

Clear spray varnish

6 2 inch jump rings (silver)

2 silver chains

a) 12 inch

b) 7 inch

14 inch leather cord

silver lobster clasp

All of the materials can be found at any craft store. I prefer Hobby Lobby. They usually have great sales, and their prices are really low.

1. Paint circle with red paint, let dry.

2. Then lightly paint black paint on any part of the stamp and stamp onto

circle. I used the right wing, but this necklace is going to be your own,

so have fun with it.

3. Mark dots with silver pen any place on the butterfly.

4. Spray clear varnish on a piece of paper out side. Wait about 10 min. to

let dry.

5. Make two horizontal marks at the top of the pendant. Make sure that

they are 1 inch apart from each other (measure from the inside of pendant

out)

6. Place wooden board on a hard flat surface. Place pendant on top of

wooden board, then drill out marked holes.

7. Attach two jump rings to holes in pendant then close off with pliers.

8. Take the 12 inch chain and separate into two parts (they should measure

out to be 6 inches. Take out the links with pliers, so that you will have

two pieces of 6 inch chain.

9. Connect the end of one chain to the jump ring connected to the

pendant, close off with pliers. Connect the remaining jump ring to the

other 6 inch chain.

10. Take the 7 inch chain and add jump rings to both ends. Then connect

the 7 inch chain at the very top of the chain with hanging pendant

(connect chain, left then right) The necklace so far should have a layered

look.

11. At the other ends of the 7 inch chain, connect jump rings. These jump

ring will be used to tie off the leather cord.

12. Take leather cord, thread through a jump ring and tie. Connect the

lobster clasp with the flat nose pliers and close. Then tie off the other

end.
