Do You like to sew...do you have a craft/sewing space? Then let's start a Sewing & Craft Circle! ymib is filled with so many crafty and creative ladies, so I thought it was quite proper to share a bit of sewing inspiration, and keep a lookout for the the ymib sewing circle, which was inspired by Circle Sister Chayil! The Circle will be a place where we can share current and past sewing and craft projects, tips and resources, so sit tight!
Whether you are a beginner or an avid seamstress, there are patterns out there that will fit your sewing level and interests. Even if you feel that you cannot sew a straight line! Many times, we see photos of super large rooms that seem to be larger than some of our apartments and bedrooms, and to be quite honest, many of us just don't have that kind of space. One of my favorite crafty pieces for creative your own little get-away without re-modeling a room is the Craft Armoire by Sauder(seen below: bottom). The possibilities of personalizing and decorating this cute little piece is endless. You could even paint it, install lighting, and put in some peg boards for hanging scissors and bobbin holders. Whether your space is big or small, take the time to decorate it it so that it exudes the spirit of creating each and every time you glance at it or open it for that matter. Below are some creative and crafty rooms that I adore. When creating your space don't be afraid to use things that may not have been intended for what you want it to be used for and get creative with color. Your room should define your personality!
If you are a beginner, then you may want to consider the following tools to keep in your space. If you have questions about picking a sewing machine then I would suggest checking out ymib's Inspiration Network Member: Erica B's blog as she rolls down a list of preferred sewing machines for beginners:
Sharp Scissors, Comfortable Lighting, Sharp Pinking Shears, Seam Ripper, Pins, Needles & Pin Cushions, Good & Clean Iron, Ironing Board, Small Folding Scissors, Thimbles, Empty Bobbins, Rotary Cutter, Peg Boards (which can be spray painted), Dress Form(I recommend JoAnn Fabrics), Bookshelves for Organizing & Storage, Inspiration Boards & Photos/Collages, Music, Incense

this makes me sooo excited!

Yes!!!
I am so excited about this new feature on ymib.com!!! Sewing and crafting has been my life saver, it helps reduce my stress, it keeps my creative energy alive and flowing. It has allowed me to see a future outside my corporate 9-5, it has created a deeper bond between my mother, my daughter, and my friends. Not to mention the satification I feel when I step out on the streets of Atlanta rocking my own creation and knowing that my hands created this, with love, honor, and passion!
Anyone..
...intrested in sewing our prayershawl/quilt for sacred women together? We can share ideas and tips on how to, because it is a quilt it might be fun making squares and shipping/mailing them to each other. Anyone who is interested in this idea let me know on my page.
Blessings,
Chayil

Making Culturally Relevant Handbags & More...
Hello everyone! It's exciting to see so many other sewing enthusiasts here. I invite Makeysha & all of you all to check out my new book of handbag projects & accessories, and my home decorating books, all using African fabrics. Details are on my website. In fact, in onor of the new Sewing Circle, I'll be contacting Ericka about putting together a special YMIB/Cultured Expressions prize drawing. I look forward to contributing to and learning from this new circle. Thanks, Ericka, You are The Woman ; )

Handbags !
I love to create handbags in my spear time. I have 2 sewing machines. Although I confess to not having sewn anything in a long time. I have been looking to more interesting fabrics to use such as Asian patterns, African tribal patterns, and the speak to you that have POWER and STRENGTH.
Any suggestions ladies ?
