Fashion Photography: Mama Clothing

Mama Clothing

The fashion promo photography for Mama Clothings 2007 collection was so inspiring. I really admire the line because they seem to incorporate lots of nostalgic trends, societal icons and issues, and symbols within their collections, each one having a theme. Nevertheless I thought I would share these inspiring fashion forward photos! They make me think of the days of John Lennon, peace, war, rainbows, mellow moods, and love!

Inspiration Vintage: Avant Gaudy

Avant Gaudy

Vintage online boutique Avant Gaudy has some really cute pieces for very affordable prices that can add some life and a cool breeze of a blast from the past to your wardrobe collection. “Although we are in a society with fewer ways to distinguish ourselves, here at Avant Gaudy we appreciate the unlike minded. In its time the avant-garde encompassed art, music, literature, and fashion, making fearless advancements while propelling culture as it was known into a new age. At times aggressive, strange, and always pointedly counter culture, a tinge of the gaudy sparked the moment.” -avant gaudy

Gotta Get There: Tracy Feith

Gotta Get There: Tracy Feith

I simply fell in love with the pieces of the Tracy Feith Collections. Just feast your eyes on all the candy coated colors in the background of his interview with Danny from Americas Next Top Model. Surfer turned designer, he designs such beautiful clothes that are eloquently fused and inspired by natural colors from ocean waves, eastern lands, and sunsets that results in such a girly, bright, and airy Bohemian style! His boutique is located in the popular shopping district of Nolita in New York just a hop skip and a jump from the posh shopping of SoHo

Models We Love: Gelila Bekele

Gelila Bekele

I just love the beauty of Ethiopian model Gelila Bekele. She has such a sweet and innocent appeal and her photographs are so striking and feminine! Check out these videos of her for Ford models giving some simple and quick beauty and hair tips."I am an East African, learning how to wear my body, and trying to be the best ME! Enjoying life. learning simplicity, and at this very moment I am just a sponge. I have encountered many things. and through time I have learned, human beings are not programmed to endure a predestined life… "life goes on – relationships change, friendships grow, acquaintances flourish … that will endure a life time where, even for the short while, the ephemeral moments you pass together and stand motionless for eternity – not to grow old but to renew themselves in unquenchable inferno!"

Locs of Style!

Locs of Style

Leave A Comment: How do you like to wear your locs? There is nothing like some fabulous inspiration to motivate us girls to make our hair look good! There are so many different styles that you can do with locs. the possibilities are truly endless. From up-dos, to buns, to braiding, twists, coils, and so much more. I like to wear my locs pulled back and up for the most part with a few of them hanging down or pulling up the locs with a pretty scarf. These photos and tutorials have totally inspired me to get more creative with my styles. I particularly like the ones without hair pins because they tend to put more tension on my scalp. Ok so I hope you are inspired by these stylish locs! The model in feature photo is of model Nerissa Kamoy. I love how they wrapped her locs up in a bun! This look is so beautiful!

We Like Her Style: NAYO

Nayo

Have you ever heard of Nayo? Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, this lovely songstress carries a sultry voice that at many times reminds me a bit of Sade. Especially this song called "African Girl". You can pick up a copy of her latest abum here on Amazon. Nevertheless, I thought not only did her music sound great but so is her fashion taste!

diy Beauty: Herbal Steam Facials

We all know that herbal teas do wonders for the holistics of our body, but did you know that they can be just as healing for our outer beauty as well! Adorning your face with a herbal steam facial at least once a week can keep your pores clean & breathing freely and can provide your skin with that much needed moisture. To top it all off, you can enjoy the healing aromas of all sorts of herbal blends that you can mix up in your home spa. Here is what you will need:

1. Large pot filled about half way with water

2. Herbal blends: this can be any combination of herbs and teas. I especially like to use chamomile, lavender, mint, and sometimes to add to the ambiance I will spice up my herbs with some aromatic spices like star anise, cinnamon, or vanilla.

3. 2 Fresh clean towels

4. Headband or Scarf to pull your hair back away from your face

Directions:

Bring your water and herbs to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Place your pot on top of a potholder on your table. Hold your face over the steam and drape the towel over your head to keep the steam in. Your water should have some heat to it, but please make sure that the steam is not too hot. Let your face absorb the steam for about 5-7 minutes. Remove your towel and face away from the steam. Rinse with cold water and pat dry. End your herbal steam facial with your favorite astringent to close your pores. Enjoy your freshly herbed face!

Gotta Get There: Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese

As a small child, Tracy and her Mother would sit together, side by side on sewing machines and make beautiful things, getting lost in the bliss of creation. Her lady-like Grandmother served as Tracy’s first fashion icon. Tracy moved from her hometown of Detroit, Michigan to Manhattan where she attended Parson’s School of Design.

I sit and daydream of a day that is filled with iced chai, a 30 minute massage at an upscale spa and a lovely little shopping adventure at Tracy Reese's flagship store where I would pick me up a shimmery and girly sun dress and a clutch to match, and oh, and of course a pair of of shoes to top it all off. Tracy Reese is one of the most inspiring fashion designers. Her collections are beyond classy, feminine, whimsical, and just simply beautiful. Tracy Reese So, while you may not be able to hop a plane and shop her boutique like only the fabulous can do, you can however pick you up something special from the comfort of your own home by shopping her online boutique.

Here are a few of my favorites from her collections:

Magazines We Love: Colures

Colures Magazine

Leave a Comment: What are some of your favorite fashion and beauty magazines?

‘Colures’ offers Style and Culture for the Modern Woman of Colour and is a perfect mix of fashion, arts, black hair and beauty. Articulate features and inspiring lifestyle pages include interiors, food, finance, travel and weddings etc.

There are not that many fashion magazines out there for women of color, and you best believe that there are little to none that reflect our fashion styles, but I must say that Colures magazine is one of my favorites thus far. This London based glossy is filled with some pretty nice fashion photography and interviews, and offers up some great products to be both inspired by and to purchase. For those of us who live outside of the London/UK area the international subscription cost is about $64 & you can also purchase single copies. Which is not bad at all in comparison to the mainstream international fashion magazines like Italian Vogue and such. So if you love to be inspired by fashion insights from around the world, then set your eyes on Colures.
