SoulSeed Tees - T_shirts for the Black woman's blog

Happily Natural Day in Atlanta last weekend - Were you there?

This past weekend I was in Atlanta again for the annual Happlily Natural Day. If you are into buying one of a kind african inspired everything it was the place to be. The vendors (myself included) had so many original products to see. I think at one point I was overwhelmed with all the creativity and the quality of products. I'm still thinking about all the funky purses, jewelry, art and apparel that I saw.

People came out, but the event did not pull in the crowd that I anticipated. I made the best of it though. I got my networking mack on and I met a lot of creative and conscious minded black folk. I hope to be able to share some of those products on the website soon. Who says we can't support and buy black? The devil is a lie. I saw it for myself this weekend. I think we may be on to something.

Meeting Queen Afua

Queen Afua & I

Hey sistas I was in Atlanta this weekend for the Afrikan Woman Institute of Atlanta Grand Opening and I met Queen Afua. This sista elder is powerful. The experience was highly emotional and some things happened that were unexpected. However, speakers spoke on political prisoners on to giving yourself more than the leftover crumbs. Some danced and others cried. I sold some shirts and connected with some positive sistas.

Afrikan Woman Institute of Atlanta Grand Opening this weekend!!!

Hey sisters I just wanted to share an upcoming event with you. Check out www.afrikanwoman.com for more details. Quest speakers to include Queen Afua and Mama Konta. I will be there reppin for SoulSeed Tees. Come out and bring the whole family it's going to be explosive and powerful!!!

Black Statue of Liberty

It has been said that the original statue of liberty was a Black Egyptian woman. She was built by a French man named Bartholdi who was inspired by the monuments that he had seen when he visited Egypt(Africa). Story has it that America was not ready to see a symbol like that in 1886. If you ask me this society is still not ready. In 1886 was when the refashioned model (the one that you see today) was put up. I've been told that one could go to the museum of the city of New York at 5th Ave. and 103rd St. to see the original model. Is this true? I haven't made it to New York to check it out, but in the meantime in between time I created my own version...check it the Black Woman as Statue of Liberty T-Shirt below. There is so much that is purposely not revealed to us about our story, but depending on other cultures to tell you the truth about your story is preposterous to me. I saw on CNN not too long ago that the forces that be are even trying to take away the little African American studies that are offered at colleges. I don't know about you, but things like this make me ask questions. Like why?

Check out this Sista

Just wanted to share with my sistas a sista that is doing it. Her name is Lashanda Henry if you haven't heard. She has been a great help in my bussiness and I just want to pass it on to you. If you need a cool urban banner she comes highly recommended and she is the definitely the one to connect to if you want to increase your business. Click the links below and check her out!

How do you define yourself?

I would define myself as a beautiful soul & spirit having a black experience or a spiritual being within a shell, that shell being the body of a woman of color. I know that I am more than my body, emotions and mind. My true essence is infinite and boundless. On a physical level I am whole and complete just as I am. I know that the Most High Creator makes no mistakes and I am so glad that I manifested as a Black woman.

Introducing a new T-shirt by SoulSeed Tees ~ I love my Brothas

Black unity begins when the African man and wombman can push aside pride and respect one another for who and what they are naturally. Although we don't always see eye to eye he is a vital component of balancement and very necessary. He represents brother, lover, friend, son and King. This shirt was created out of care and to encourage and promote more unity with him.

You're in your car feeling good jammin hard to that song that just makes you lose all your cool, ignore the person next to you at the traffic light and commence to trying to do the stanky leg in a sitting position. Well I had a moment like that last night...my song of choice last night was M.J.'s "You rock my world" I felt so good. Another song that I just go bannanas over while i'm driving is Arrested Developement's "Everyday People." I am curious if I am the only one who does this. If you do it too I want to know what song you like to jam to.

Chris Rock's "Good Hair"

First of all I want to thank Lumayna for sharing the video clips. I agree with you sisters from what I could see the movie does not encourage natural beauty. Towards the end he makes a plea for Black women to stop putting the "kiddie perms" in their daughters hair. He says to let them make a decision when they are up in age. Well if the mothers are a reflection of the women in the movie the decision of these young women would be obvious. How you going to tell your daughter that she is beautiful and encourage her to wear her natural hair when you as her mother have a perm? It makes no sense. My daughter and I have sister locs and you could not pay my daughter to believe that she is not the ish. Sometimes, I think that I have created a monster because she has so much confidence and she loves her skin tone and her locs. Raven Simone openly admitted that she gets a perm to make others feel more "Relaxed". Living to please others is like dying. When I was a young and unaware of my natural beauty....I did the perm thing because I did not know better.

Queen Hatshepsut ~ A little Black HERstory

I am Hatshepsut(pronounced Hatchepsut)and I ruled as King during the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt(Africa). During my time it was not uncommon for women to have a high status in our society. However it was not all that common for a woman to rule as King. There were other Queens before me that ruled in their own name such as Khentkaues, Sobeknefru, etc. However, my reign lasted successfully about 22 years(the longest reign of any woman of Ancient Egypt)and brought a lot of prosperity and peace to Egypt(Africa). My name Hatshepsut means "foremost of noble ladies" and it is very befetting of me. Being that my father was King Thutmose I and my mother was Queen Ahmose, I was born royal. When my father Thutmose I died his son(Thutmose II, my husband to whom I was the Great Royal wife) became Pharoah. Thutmose II died shortly after his Kingship leaving Thumose III heir to the throne. However, he was too young to serve as King. So, I became Regent which simply meant that I acted on his behalf. I acted as regent for some time and then I made a very bold move. I declared myself King making me the 5th Pharoah of the 18th dynasty.

Self hatred at its best

Why we need self love

What are y'all thoughts on the "Lil Monkey" dolls?

Okay so I get on the web and the first thing I see is this story about the "Lil Monkey" dolls. It made me shake my head and laugh because the powers that be have tried to reduce us down to animals for so long that this did not surprise me. The deep thing about it is europeans have a history for being uncivil, treacherous and barbaric...but we are animals? Some of us do act like animals because we have picked up some bad habits from this society. A wise man once said, "just because someone calls you an ass does not mean you will grow a tail and long ears" and because I find that to be true I don't let stuff like this upset me. However, I am glad that we raised a little cain. Besides it's not what others think of us it's what we think of ourselves. I hear that the doll has been pulled from shelves because of the people that raised hell, but sometimes I don't understand my people. We are quick to point out racism and disrespect when it comes from a person of another color, but we have deaf ears when it comes from our own. The same way we raised hell about this doll we should raise hell about stations like B.E.T.

you will absolutely love this....dark skin to light skin

T-shirt reads: Dark skin to Light skin...it's all beautiful Black skin
I was inspired to make this shirt because I know this is still an issue that we are dealing with...we are all sisters

Fed Up!

A friend of mine texted me the other day, "call me later..I've got breaking news"
My response was, "if it don't involve a man then it is breaking news"
Well needless to say she did not call me or text me again. You see I am at a point in my life where I feel dissatisfied with the way we women let our source of happiness come from a man. Don't get me wrong I love me a real Black man, but I think it is something terribly wrong when that seems to be our only source of happiness. Another friend texted me, "if I were on the side of the road stranded with my drawers on the top of my head...I won't call you" She says you never answer the phone. I told her not to take it personal I'm just taking some time for me and I realized that I waste a lot of time with other women always talking about men. So, she she says ok call me when you get a chance...Kevin's girlfriend has been calling me. Normally I am all on the drama, but I am evolving. I would love to talk these sisters about other things going on in their life...somebody talk to me.

Michael Jackson

The body is temporary, but the soul eternal. One sista said that energy transforms and I agree. Let's pray that Michael transitions out of this realm and that his soul is free and not bound by any negative forces that keeps souls bound and tormented. Michael was angelic and if our journey is judged by the way we live then why be sad he is in a good place. I say to you Michael because you are free and uninhibited , "soar brother soar!" Be happy and come back some time and mess with all the people that messed with you while you were here with us. May peace be forever with you.

Love Yourself....what does that really mean?

Like Chrisette Michelle I had an epiphany today. I started thinking about self love . I am talking beyond the superficial and physical things because let's face it if it was all about going to the spa, getting a facial, pedicure and manicure or having "me time", sistah's we would have self love on lock. I'm not saying these things are not important, but it's more to it and I'm just trying to get overstanding. So, as I contemplated on LOVE I said to myself, "self, self love is knowing I am LOVE and that I am loved ,but break it down some more for me. Self said, "okay you are LOVE because THE ALL is LOVE and because you are a part of THE ALL you are LOVE. Okay so I was satisfied because I realize that I am a part of the Divine which is love. My uncertainty comes from the second question. What is the proof that I am loved? So, again I went inward because THE MOST HIGH dwells there and I said. "self, how do I know that I am loved? She said that the gift of will is one example. She said no other creation has it, I'm like okay that is a blessing, but ,it can also be a curse when we choose to live unrighteously.

Preparation goes a long way

Greetings all my Nubian sistrens,

As much as I love my peoples I know that we can sometimes procrastinate and ignore such things as preparing for natural disasters. So, I just wanted to take time and put this on your mind . Single sisters it is paramount that we prepare because there is no one in our households but us and to my sisters that are in relationships or married you may need to be the one to get the ball rolling. Whether your city is known for flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, landslides, fires or earthquakes we should always be prepared. I live in Florida and hurricane season is upon us and my little survival kit is almost complete(see I told you we procrastinate). Each time I go to the store I pick up something for my disaster kit(candles, flashlights, N.O.A.A. weather radio, batteries, water, extra clothing, blankets, non perishable foods, toiletries). Some stores have a camping section and this is a good place to pick up things such as sternos and collapsible water containers. Don't be the ones in Walmart at the last minute fighting over water because you did not prepare. Let's go!
