Sistership

What do you define as Sistership?

I'm going to take a small risk and expose my feeling about my experience with Sisterships. We tend to discuss relationships with significant others but sometimes we neglect our relationships with each other as Sisters.

My experience with Sisters and Mothers have been painful in the past. Although I have had progressive and supportive relationships, many have left me feeling hurt and unfulfilled(still healing from some of them).

When I think about what Sisterships are about I imagine support, healing, and unity. Now... I'm aware that relationships take work and are not necessarily paradise however I would think that Sisterships will lean more towards being uplifting & wholesome.

Even though I have been hurt and betrayed by sistahs I have done my best to shake off the dust and keep my trust open to the beautiful Sistahs that I know exist and that I can develop progressive relationships with.I also must mention that I self-assess on how I could have acted differently too.

I love my work at home job!

I thought I should write about my experience lately with my new work at home job.

I believe that financial stability is important for our families and community. However, I don't think that financial stability should happen at the expense of neglecting the needs of our children, family members, and friends.

We tend to easily get caught up with working 9-5 that we forget about the importance of our lives outside of work.

So, I took a different approach. I first started my own businesses while homeschooling my children. Even though this was a good start I was struggling financially having new businesses and this comes with starting any business.

There were many times I thought of going back to a 9-5 job. However, I didn't want to give up homeschooling so I looked for work at home. This was another obstacle, since many are scams and require a deposit to start. Then the "business" or person for that matter runs off with your money. Other businesses require a start up fee and are not scams, but I don't think we should pay to work! We should be paying us to work instead.

Where's our justice as women and mothers?

Where's our justice as women?

Are we justified by simply being women? Are we justified when we're born from our mother's who a woman?

Are we justified because we are needed to recreate and keep human beings on this earth?

With this male driven world it seems so evident that our justification has been put to the back burner. Where's our time to get justice for being raped, abused, and used?

Where's our justice as single mothers from "baby-daddies" who abandoned them and her five children? Or did we forget that justice matters because we're to busy having to feed the mouths and clothe the backs our her fatherless babies?Maybe we forgot when the courts insist that we dumb-down the abuse and hell we went through because he has legal "rights" to visitation of the children.

Where's our justice as women hoping that she will have enough food to feed her children that day? Is it the promise that she can go to college and earn a degree to be financial free that brings hope of justice?

Some brief thoughts on women & racism

I'm a very deep thinker and while I'm thinking I sometimes consider sharing it in a blog. A lot of the time I am very hesitant if it's a controversial issue. Other times I will not even dare to write specific topics knowing that it's not suitable for the public eye to see.

This blog is in the category of being hesitant if it was written in the wrong place! For example, I was first going to write this blog on MySpace but knew right away that it would not be the best idea.I have decided to write here on YMIB because we are all cultural, black women and we are meant to mold, shape and lead the perspectives in our community.Women were highly revered in our ancient culture for our wisdom and influence.

So one thing I believe we as women would be auspicious at healing in our community are the deep wounds of racism. Women have qualities of being healers on many levels - cultural, spiritual, political, familial, etc . We have the power to heal the injustices of racism.Black women can also encourage family and friends not to be racist. After all, in order for us to want racism to end don't we have to start with ourselves?

What did our ancestors do about hair?

I have a question to those full of knowledge about beauty, in other words my beauty-full Sistahs, lol.

I was tom-boyish as a young teen. Maybe being an athlete had something to do with it. It wasn't until I got older and connected with my womaness that I started to care more about beautifying techniques. One thing I could say that I did regularly was shave.

But since I began practicing yoga I no longer shave my legs because it's taught that the leg hairs on us women protect the electro- magnetic field of our ovaries.

Nonetheless, I always try to look at our ancestors ways of doing things. Some things in yoga is Indian and Aryan influenced. So I'm not sure if not shaving is Indian or Aryan teachings.

When I did research, I would read that sugaring was a common thing done by our ancestors to remove hair. However, I am not sure how authentic the sources I read are.

So Sistahs...do you have any authentic material that answers my question on hair removal? You help is much appreciated.

Bless,

Family and Community Elevation

When I first started homeschooling, I didn't really know what was in store for us. All I knew was that I didn't like how my son wasn't getting the individual attention he needed in school and that he was being bullied. None of the teachers or authorities were on the front lines with me when I was trying to put an end to the bullying. I drew the line when he came home very upset and his pants ripped up to his knee, and again, nobody from his school called me.

Now that we are homeschooling, my son has matured to a great extent. My daughter is also doing great. She is very bright, alert and intelligent.

We love the fact that we can be creative and independent in creating studies for homeschool. We are always coming up with new ideas for cultural, academic, and social studies.

I find that homeschool opens up new doors to better opportunities for me to challenge myself as a parent and teacher. It also challenges me as an entrepreneur since it puts positive pressure on me to be successful since I made a choice not to go out and work. Homeschooling pressures me to succeed in business at home.

Boost Spiritual Life with Yoga

Yoga has help me immensely in my life. It's a excellent ancient science that we all as Afrakan descendant should do. After all our ancestors did it. Yoga is a journey of the soul. It connects and probes me spiritualy.
One insight I have on yoga is that it's similar to prayers and rituals. Doing prayers and rituals tie us to our ancient ancestors and spiritual role models and so does yoga. By practicing yoga we are tied to an ancient practice that our ancestors did. That in itself keeps me motivated and amazed.
