My website at http://www.tashanda.com is in the process of launching its new line of bags called Afrobags. I'd love to hear your thoughts...Tashanda is a social enterprise which works with a mix of marginalized & established producer groups to promote commerce in Zimbabwe. Wholesale & individual inquiries are welcome.

Lucky Dube

I was shocked to hear about the death of South Africa reggae artist Lucky Dube. I last saw him live in concert in Boston, MA. He was shot & killed in an attempted carjacking right in front of his two kids!

For those of you who don't know Lucky was the biggest-selling reggae singer in South Africa and has won over 20 awards locally and internationally. The lyrics to his music are entrenched with issues of equality, spirituality and the scourge of poverty and deprivation.

My favorite (and his biggest hits) included Slave, Prisoner and Remember Me. I highly recommend him if you are looking for something different. His website is http://www.luckydubemusic.com/

African colors

Many of us think the colors of Africa are the earth tones - brown, black, beige..You'll be suprised to learn that there is an entire spectrum of colors used in Africa from Cape (town, south africa) to Cairo (egypt). I specialize in Zimbabwe (next door to South Africa) because it is where I am from. My anscestors color choices were somewhat limited to earth tones - even my grandmothers hut today is decorated in mud colors (beautifully too, I must say), however, as with all countries in the world, we have also been affected by migrations, colonizations and globalizations. This means that although we remain true to our cultural identity through our patterns, we have adopted all spectrums of the rainbow in our decor.
