Hey Sistah's, Need a little help.I just received the news yesterday that I will be relocating to Illinois.The bad thing about this is I know nothing about this state and I am expected to research and find a home there.I get only one visit there to actually view my choice of homes before the big move.The Realtor that I will be working with is supposed to contact me today with her list of possible homes,however I don't want my new location to be entirely left in her hands.So,I'm asking if there are any sistah's here who are from Illinois,please lend me a helping hand.Like,which neighborhoods are equally diverse that are somewhat close to Chicago.20-30 min.commute from downtown .There is nothing wrong with a predominately white neighborhood,but I don't want my family to be the tokens ,either.Any help will greatly be appreciated.My comfort level is off the grid here

As everyone knows Sen.Barrack Obama is the first African American Presidential Nominee.Yes,history was made on 6/3/08.This will forever be a memorable event,not just because of Barrack's historical mark but also because it was done on my 17th.wedding anniversary.I can't explain the pride and joy that was felt in our home last nite.The discussion and hearing my children say ,see I told you a black man would be president in your day mommy.All that said with the pride and joy,but as I watched the speeches from McCain,Hillary and Barrack a part of me still stood a firm supporter of Hillary.Yes,Hillary.I supported Hillary from day one.I truly felt her message and plan spoke more to me than Barracks and could not honestly support Barrack because he is a "Black Man".I still feel that Hillary should press on even though it's over.I don't know ,take her 18 million votes and come out as an independent,even though I know it would hurt Barrack in Nov.I don't want to hurt his campaign in anyway .I do I want to see a Black President.So am I confused,or has the "Euro centric Brainwashing" that has been instilled in me since childhood live on.Is it deeper than I thought?

Classical:
Dating from ancient Greece and Rome, this philosophy is based upon the trivium:
grammar (using language)

School at Home:
This approach is most similar to conventional school learning. This teaching style places an emphasis on learning facts and then applying these facts to facilitate a well-rounded education. Most traditional home schoolers use a set curriculum and give grades.

Charlotte Mason:
This style or philosophy, created in the nineteenth century by Mason, emphasizes among other things:

narration (retelling what one has learned)

Although this approach is not unschooling, CM practitioners do not use workbooks or textbooks.

Now that school is almost over ,I have begun to to plan my curriculum for the the next school year.Yea ,already planning.So with that in mind I thought I would post my ideas as they come to me with resources,links,etc for those who might be interested.In the meantime here is another option for an Home school approach. This has been my previous approach : "Relaxed" or "Eclectic" Homeschooling "Relaxed" or "Eclectic" homeschooling is the method used most often by home schoolers. Basically, eclectic home schoolers use a little of this and a little of that, using workbooks for math, reading, and spelling, and taking an unschooling approach for the other subjects. The advantage of this method is that the parent feels that the subjects they believe are most important are covered thoroughly. This method also allows the family to choose textbooks, field trips, and classes that fit their needs and interests. A good magazine for the eclectic home schooler is Home Education Magazine

I am not what one would call an "Unschooler" I am more of a " Eclectic Homeschooler" when I'm not doing "Virtual Schooling",but I thought I would share this with those who are interested in homeschooling and looking for the best choices out here.

Unschooling starts with the learner, who has definite interests, learning styles, skills and multiple intelligences, which becomes "the system." Therefore, it fits every time. No child is a square peg, and everything they value is a round hole and an opportunity for real learning. In essence, Unschooling is a continuation of the natural autodidactic style that all children have, at least until they reach the age of compulsory education. At that age, children in the schools or school at home model, are retrained to conform them to didactics, teaching which requires an outside instructor.

I just wanted to show you guys exactly what I'm talking about with these portfolios.This is every 4 weeks.Not to mention that anything that is a composition,essay,report of ANY type has to have three copies.Mawiyah,I will defiantly be getting with you on your curriculum.Soulliving I thought I would be able to incorporate our materials,subjects,etc into their lessons as well,but we had little chance for that.Say for instance,like a book report I would have the children do their report on a black story written by a black author .They sent those reports back with zeros stating that either the book wasn't on the approved book list or that they didn't understand what the report was saying based on the book they chose.Now they got a chance to redo it,but of course it had to be a book on the list.Needless to say ,how many black authors do you think they have on that list.These schools DO NOT tell you exactly the truth when your signing up,they make it seem all simple ,like you can set your own schedule,contact with the child's teacher,fun field trips,etc.They do not say that the teacher will be calling every single week and that once the child reaches 5/6 grade they will have a different

I have this thought that keeps popping in my mind.Is there truly a such thing as sacred relationships?I just finished reading An Afrocentric Guide To A Spiritual Union By; Ra Un Nefer Amen for the umpteenth time and I can't help but wonder if this is really possibly in todays society.I mean everywhere you look there are ads for chat rooms,and dating sites.Even on TV ,especially late nite you can go to just about any basic channel and see sex line this,chat line that,let's meet here all kinds of corruptive crap.With all these "come and get it" shots can there ever truly be a scared relationship? When men see these ads ,they may not act on it but if their staring at it ,or comment on someone,or they just might not say anything at all but you know they didn't shut their eyes.Isn't he or she lusting ?So I say How can their ever be a true sacred spiritual union in the black community?Out of all the people I know ,family,friends,co-works not one of them is in a sacred relationship or has ever had one.
